FRIEND OR FOE?

The show begins with a view of the Floating Island. Sonic, Sonia, and Manic arrive on the Floating Island, and Sonic wants to go and looking around. Sonia says that they should be careful because the Floating Island is supposed to be "fraught with danger." Sonic doesn't listen and immediately gets caught in one of the zillions of traps on the Floating Island, created by its Guardian, who happens to be Knuckles (no he's not in it, yet).

Elsewhere on the Floating Island, Sleet and Dingo are eating lunch. Robotnik calls them and tells them to trick Knuckles into thinking that the hedgehogs are stealing the chaos emerald. While Knuckles is busy with the Sonic and company, they can steal the emerald. However, Sleet and Dingo fall into one of Knuckles' traps, and Knuckles prepares them for Chomps' dinner. Chomps is Knuckles' pet dinosaur. Unfortunately, Knuckles allows them to show him a holovideo that shows Sonic, Sonia and Manic explaining how they will defeat Knuckles and steal the chaos emerald (the voices are so far off it's ridiculous, but how would Knux know?). Then, Chomps eats the holovideo projector, so it plays whenever he opens his mouth. Knuckles lets Sleet and Dingo go, but he orders them off the Floating Island, while he goes after Sonic and company.

Meanwhile, Sonia finds one of the "sacred pools" that she read about. Through this one she can see that Queen Aleena is on the Floating Island. Suddenly, Knuckles jumps out of another "sacred pool" and I don't think he's saying "Welcome to the Floating Island, I hope you have a lovely visit." Knuckles tries his spinning fists attack on Sonic, but it doesn't work against Sonic's triple spin. However, Knuckles uses the traps he has to his advantage. He cuts a rope and Sonia and Manic fall down a huge pit. Sonic falls down another pit, but he escapes and Knuckles chases him.

While that's going on, Sleet and Dingo are walking through subterranian passages looking for the chaos emerald. When arriving at a river, Sleet morphs Dingo (with a remote control gadget) into a boat and uses him to go downstream.

Sonia and Manic are trapped in a room. Sonia uses her keyboard to blast down the door so that they can get out. Soon afterward, Sonia and Manic find Chomps, who's in pain, playing the holovideo, and figure out that Sleet and Dingo must have tricked Knuckles. They get the holovideo (which was causing the pain) out of Chomps mouth, and he becomes friendly with them. Sonia gets Chomps to lead them to Sleet and Dingo.

Meanwhile, Sonic is on the run from Knuckles across a set of thin bridges. Knuckles breaks the bridge down trying to get Sonic to fall, but it doesn't work as Sonic manages to get across and spins into the ground. When Sonic comes back up, he confuses Knuckles, who loses his balance and falls off the Floating Island. Sonic grabs him from falling very far and Knuckles realizes that he's been tricked.

Sleet and Dingo find the chaos emerald, and take it. Then they head back to their aircraft to take the chaos emerald to Robotnik. However, without the chaos emerald in its rightful place, there are "Floating Island quakes" everywhere. The Floating Island starts to fall towards the sea. Despite Knuckles, Sonic, and company finding Sleet and Dingo, those two are about to escape with the chaos emerald. Fortunately, before they reach their aircraft, Dingo drops it because he's distracted by Sonia's voice. Sonic and his siblings keep the Swatbots busy and perform this show's song called "Things Aren't Always What They Seem," while Knuckles gets the emerald and puts it back in place. Sleet and Dingo leave, while Robotnik calls them and says that they better have the chaos emerald or he's roboticizing them.

At night, Knuckles cooks a special echidnan delicacy for Sonic, Sonia and Manic. Manic tells Knuckles that they are looking for their mother, Queen Aleena. Knuckles says "Why didn't you just say so?" (note: Sonia, at the beginning of their first meeting with Knuckles, wanted to talk to him, while Sonic wanted to fight so that's what happened), and shows them the message Queen Aleena left for them: "In the final days of Robotnik's tyranny allies will unite with my children. First among them will be Knuckles, guardian of the Chaos Emerald."
