Note: This is Knuckles' first ever appearance, and sets the stage for "Enter Knuckles" which was released a few months later in the regular issues of Sonic the Comic.

Every now and then, the sunlight hits the clouds above Planet Mobius in such a way that suggests that there's something behind it. This has given rise to the legend of the Floating Island. Except this legend is different to most other legends. This legend is true! Knuckles the Echidna is the guardian of the Floating Island, and the Chaos Emeralds on it.

Knuckles notices a meteorite of sorts crashing down on his island. It impacts around the Ice Cap Zone. Leaping in a Zoom Tube, he soon reaches his destination. A little camera robot appears and talks to Knuckles. He explains that he's a humble scientist that crashed in a test flight.

But Knuckles tells him that he hasn't reached Mobius - this is the Floating Island! Robotnik presses him; Knuckles reveals that he has all the Chaos Emeralds - after all, how else would the Floating Island be able to fly.

At this point, Knuckles reaches Robotnik, who is trapped under a pile of debris inside the ship. He explains that he's glad that Knuckles has arrived, because he has news of a terrible, deadly menace - a menace known as Sonic the Hedgehog!
