Knuckles Comic Target audience Higher???
By Legionnaire Smythe
It has been noted that the Sonic comics running alongside Knuckles were childish, mindless adventure stories, while the Knuckles stories generally dealt with more "mature" subjects, such as divorce, politics, insanity, and even drugs. I don't think something like Lemon Sundrop Dandelion would be even REMOTELY allowed in the main comics. As apparent from various letters, it seems that the majority of Knux readers were tweens-teenagers, as opposed to the main comics pre-ado audience. Another thing that makes me think this is the fact that the Knuckles comics were allowed to show more emotion. For instance, when Charmy finds out that Mello dies, he cries on Harry's shoulder, showing more emotion than Sonic was allowed to throughout the ENTIRE Endgame arc. I really think that if Archie continued this series, it would have gained more readers than the Sonic comics currently have. Alas, with the child-oriented Sonic X stealing the spot for Knuckles' comic, I feel Archie may NEVER have the amount of readers it had when Knux was out...
