A topic I've heard during the whole Chaos Knux saga. I've heard many people complain how Julie-Su got captured so easily in SSS # 14, and didn't show her tough-chick attitude much. I too didn't really like that, but I think I should point some things out that my favourite female character in the Archie Sonic/Knuckles Comics is not a damsel-in-distress!
People, it was only one issue! In the whole Knuckles series,she can take care of herself(and even saved Knux once). In the Sonic Adventure adaption,she and the Chaotix were held hostage by the cats from the Mysterious Cat Country. I can understand why they didn't try to escape : they(the cats) will kill them(Chaotix) instantly if they try. When Vector was all foul-mouthed(heh, the Archie Comics censored him saying cr** ),the Queen really didn't like that. Imagine if they tried to escape.
For SSS 14,I personally believed that when she took the corner, Julie-Su got such a fright seeing the group of Dark Legionnaires and them grabbed hold of her, she just didn't fight(hey,even the best of fighters can be beaten by surprise). That's before I've heard the real reason.I did hear in Mr Dan Drazen's one review, Mr Penders had to drop the part where Julie-Su fought the group quite well, but was overwhelmed by the superior numbers, and lost the fight. Mr Penders didn't have enough space for that scene, so it had to cut.
But Julie-Su was also spitting fire when the Dark Legionnaires took her to Lien-Da. Julie-Su wanted to attack her and what-not. Of course, she(Julie-Su) was handcuffed and held by two Dark Legionnaires, so she couldn't attack her half-sis. Most damsel-in-distress are all goody-goody and don't want to do anything.
She got her attitude and she fought in some battles(See "Home" and "Return to Angel Island" for the battles) from Sonic # 114-141.When the Chaotix, Knux and Sonic went to free Locke, Julie-Su came with(and fought quite well). Safron, Mace, Remington, Lara-Le and Wynmacher were left behind.
It's not like Julie-Su lost those qualities after she got kidnapped. When she acts all "mushy", she's just showing her softer, more romantic, side.
PS: I didn't include Sonic # 99, since Knux actually went back through time. Unless I'm wrong about that...
